Little Free Libraries! - The Modern-Day Pack Horse Woman

The Modern-Day Pack Horse Woman

Hey Reader~

It’s been a while but I managed to stay busy 😉 and I’m guessing you did, too.

Thank you for your email replies with suggestions on how to handle this

bookmobile situation. I’ve found an alternative with a plan for something bigger.

Nothing like an adventure to clear my mind and get the creative juices flowing. I was invited to go rock wall climbing after school one gorgeous fall day. Who knew I was going to check that off a bucket list on a random week day?!

Back to my pivot: Little Free Libraries! Tell me you’ve seen these all over the place. Thanks to a school volunteer, Lynne (who my students lovingly refer to as “the Library Lady”), for the idea. There are a few Little Free Libraries in the area. I’m hoping some families who live farther out of town might want to build one too. Wouldn’t that be neat? Businesses could sponsor them, I could check with the shop teacher & students about building plans, and they could be placed in places of need. Maybe families will start to bring their own books to exchange.

For now, I’ve got the PTA ready to help, the athletic director donating family passes to events, a local pizza business with a rewards program, and a car full of boxes of old curriculum books.

The plan is in place, but I can’t execute it until I get through the month. Around late fall, as the holiday season sneaks up on me, I tend to get notes from past students. It’s a glimmer in my day and worth every hard moment. I’ll tell you about it next time…

Shout out to the iconic Maegan who taught me how to show my work:

Hey Reader~ If you’re wondering if you’re doing this challenge “right” or not or maybe you’re stuck in analysis paralysis like I sometimes am, remember that the goal is to get out of bed when your alarm clock goes off. You determine what time you set your alarm. You determine what 10 minutes of fresh air and movement look like. You’re in control of how this challenge fits your lifestyle. Me? Thanks for asking. During the week, I’m up by 5:30 am because of how peaceful mornings are. Some days...

Hey Reader~ I am enjoying hearing from all of you, some days more than I am enjoying my Wake Up Call! We have finished Week 2 and my habit looks different based on the day. Some mornings are easier than others, but I always feel great after fresh morning air. My morning movement has varied from walking around the yard to see what berries the neighborhood bear has eaten from my garden to a speed walk with my husband and dogs before the sun comes up. The calorie burn is vastly different but I’m...

The Modern-Day Pack Horse Woman Hey Reader~ Sold a Story was fascinating, wasn’t it? Keep me posted as you listen to it. You can see why I have a lot of passion for teaching kids, right? Our country failed to educate our youth. Not for lack of trying; because of misunderstanding what our kids truly needed in order to learn. I have so many theories on the evolution of education (another alliteration 😉). Someone remind Future Kreisa to do a blog post or better yet, a Ted Talk, on this topic;...
